The Effect of the Cause
“I know that the experiences of our lives, when we let God use them, become the mysterious and perfect preparation for the work He will give us to do.”
- Corrie ten Boom
Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.
2 Timothy 1:13-14
We are all somewhat familiar with the notion of cause and effect: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
This concept can be substantiated in our spiritual lives as well.
Every experience we have: every trial we face: every challenge we overcome: equips, prepares and gets us ready for some future opportunity that God may have for us.
Often it is the pain and frustrations of our past experience that lead us to God’s grace, mercy and love that sees us through these challenges: and because of this, we then find ourselves able to reach out to and minister to someone who may be going through something very similar.
Often God equips us so that we can empathize and go beyond mere sympathy for a persons circumstance or situation: because if we have been there we can identify with and often feel their pain and know their frustrations, because they have once been ours.
The longer I live and the more I experience in life the more and more convinced I become that the things God takes me through are more than just the lessons I need to learn in life, though they are that for certain: they are also the preparations for future lives that God wants me to touch with the truth and wisdom of first hand experience that says, Yes greater is He that is in me; than he that is in the world, because – I have experienced……
This does not mean we can not minister to those whose circumstances, situations and experiences are far different from ours; but it does meant hat when God brings others of like-experience into our paths we are better prepared and equipped to be what He needs to reach out to them.
Today’s Prayer
Father, help me to never become so self absorbed that I become incapable of seeing beyond the moment I am in; and what I am going through to the possibility that you might have planned somewhere down the road.
“I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hands.
I have a Father
He calls me His own
He'll never leave me
No matter where I go
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And He hears me when I call “
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hands.
I have a Father
He calls me His own
He'll never leave me
No matter where I go
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And He hears me when I call “
- Lyrics from ‘He Knows My Name’ by Tommy Walker
