It Doesn’t Have To Be Your Battle

“The mass of men live lives of quiet exasperation.”
-       Phyllis Mc Ginley

And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.
2 Chronicles  20:15

Troubles, trails, frustrations, anxieties and problems seem to be common to almost all humanity to some degree, form or measure.  We all face them; none can really escape them: but it is what we do with them; because of them or about them, that makes the difference.

Often, these perturbing incidents that inject themselves into our daily lives can impose more influence: and have more impact than often they should.

More frequently than not, it is often the lesser of these annoyances that often illicit the more dramatic reactions from us, especially as Christians.  Somehow we find it easier to believe God can handle the bigger battles and the greater struggles we face, but when it comes to the day to day things we tend to think He either isn’t interested; isn’t aware or just doesn’t want to get involved:  when the truth is He wants to be a part of every detail of our lives, great and small; big or little.

Often it is not the big battles that bring us down, so to speak, and weaken our faith; it is the daily skirmishes and struggles that overtake us and somehow end up becoming bigger than they need to be.

God can not only handle the giants in our lives: He can also handle the bombardments of daily frustrations and struggles that we face: the true challenge is, are we willing to let Him?

We are often fond of singing, “All to Jesus, I surrender. All to Him I freely give.” – Judson W. Van DeVenter (lyrics from ‘I Surrender All’): but do we really mean it?
We don’t have to struggle with the burdens and stresses of our daily lives because we have the option of laying them at His feet and taking up His yoke: but for Him to effectively intervene: we must fully surrender.

Are you weary, feeling burdened: is the weight becoming a bit too heavy: then cast your cares on Him and make your declaration of the day and say, ‘This Battle belongs to the Lord.’

Today’s Prayer

Father, to many times I find myself yielding the big things to you but trying to take on the daily struggles myself:  may I learn to lean not on my own understanding but trust completely in you for the little things just as much as I do for the big things.

I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hands.
I have a Father
He calls me His own
He'll never leave me
No matter where I go
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And He hears me when I call
-  Lyrics from ‘He Knows My Name’ by Tommy Walker
