A Little Work
“God gives the nuts, but He does not crack them.”
- Anonymous
Every man’s work shall be made manifest.
1 Corinthians 1:13
Today, being Labor Day, it seemed the topic of work would be apropos.
My Grandmother was always fond of saying, “A little hard work never hurt anybody.”
Yet I’ve heard it said by some of a few people we have known, that, “They wouldn’t work as a taste tester in a pie factory.”
I’ve also heard it said, “One mans work is another man’s pleasure.”
Christians are called on to work as well. We are called on to work in the fields of God’s harvest: to labor for the Master and to go into all the world teaching, preaching and making disciples of all men, woman or children who will listen, hear and respond.
Many are called to minister and work for the Lord in various ministries and outreach efforts; and in such cases He always gives the abilities and resources necessary to do the job, He just leaves the effort and energy of the labor up to us.
God will equip you to do what He calls you too, but He does expect for us to do the doing.
But shouldn’t the things we do for Him: actually be a labor of love and thus the labor or work is all that much sweeter?
So this Labor Day, what task(s) have you done or are you doing to glorify the Lord?
Today’s Prayer
Father: may I be busy about your business doing those things you want me to, with joy, zeal and gratitude.
“I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hands./
I have a Father
He calls me His own
He'll never leave me
No matter where I go
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And He hears me when I call “
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hands./
I have a Father
He calls me His own
He'll never leave me
No matter where I go
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And He hears me when I call “
