The Obstacles of Life
“If you want a place in the sun, you’ve got to expect a few blisters.”
- Anonymous
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
James 1:2-6
Many times as Christians we feel that we should be entitled to live a trouble free, no problems kind of life: but this is not realistic.
In fact, as Christians we are promised persecution, trails, the testing of our faith and yet when these things come along, sometimes we seem to be shocked and maybe even a little perplexed.
These obstacles of life are needful, necessary and unavoidable. In fact it is the very nature of these obstacles and the purpose they serve that help draw us closer to God and enable us to grow in our faith and deepen our relationship with Him.
Often we want to speak to the mountain or the roadblock or whatever obstacle that is in our pathway of life and have it be gone; when sometimes God wants us to face the roadblock and get around it or He wants us to climb that mountain to experience the joy of reaching it’s peak and in the process He teaches and equips us for those things we are facing which in turn makes our lives fuller and richer in Him.
Andre Crouch wrote these lyrics in the song entitled. ‘Through It All:’ “I thank God for the mountains and I thank Him for the valleys and I thank Him for the storms He’s brought me through. For if I’d never had a problem, I wouldn’t know that God could solve them, I wouldn’t know what faith in God could do.”
The next time you face an obstacle in your life, or even if you are facing one now; give thanks for it, and pray for faith, courage and strength to get what God has for you because of it.
Today’s Prayer
Father, I don’t necessarily want to ask for obstacles on my path of life, but I know that there will be some as I go along, so help me to be better ready, by faith to embrace the potential and the opportunities those obstacles present so that I can draw closer to you.
“I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hands.
I have a Father
He calls me His own
He'll never leave me
No matter where I go
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And He hears me when I call “
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hands.
I have a Father
He calls me His own
He'll never leave me
No matter where I go
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And He hears me when I call “
- Lyrics from ‘He Knows My Name’ by Tommy Walker
