Thought For Monday, May 21st

May 21, 2012

What You See
May Be A Matter Of Perspective
It Ain’t the Look that Counts

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
1 Samuel 16:7

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:Proverbs 23:7

Quote of the Day

“Looks are so deceptive that people should be done up like food packages with the ingredients clearly labelled.” – Helen Hudson

Today’s Thoughts and Insights:

The old adage that states; ‘What you see – is what you get,’ does not always apply: especially when it comes to people.

Many people and this is often and seemingly, as well as, unfortunately true among Christians, try to be chameleons.  They try to blend in to their surrounding by putting on an act or a persona to enable them to appear to be something more or less than they are and to facilitate enabling them to fit in and be accepted.

We all know those folks who will say whatever it is they think their listener wants to hear just to placate or make them happy.  For many this behavior extends beyond the spoken words to the way they dress and act when they are with a certain group of people.

But even the best attempt to mask or camouflage the real person beneath the surface of the facade we are attempting to project does not fool God.  He know the truth about who and what we are even if we do succeed in fooling others.

I often wonder if we were as real with others and with God as He knows we are  if the complexion of our church would not look a lot different (and sadly this might not be for the better).

The pont of the matter is this, we need to stop pretending to be something we are not: but we need to be what we aught to be to please God in a real and genuine manner rather than superficially or artificially.

If God’s people, those of us called by His name, would get serious about being real and, being all that we neeed to be to please  Him, we would be a lot better off and our world would be a lot better place.

Today’s Prayer

Father, you are the epitome of what It means to be real, genuine, honest and true: you never try to be on airs or act in any way that does not reveal and reflect the real you – help me to be just as genuine and if there are aspect of the real me that are not pleasing to you – help me change them.

Let us be grateful to the mirror for revealing to us our appearance only.
Samuel Butler

This is my cry: This is my song,
You are my guiding light, when the way is unknown;
And when the sunny skies, turn shades of gray,
I’ll stay close by your side: As you lead the way.
Jesus lead on I will follow:
Jesus lead on, let your love light the way…
-  Lyrics from ‘Jesus Lead On’ by Brent Helming
