Thought for Thursday May 17th

Who’s Agenda Is It - Anyway
Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
Psalms 127:1
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.  Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Matthew 7:12-14
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8

Today’s Thoughts and Insights:

Agendas seem to comprise so much of our lives that we often require electronic devices just to keep up with when we are to do what, how we are to do whatever it is we are doing and where it is to be done.   These become our social agendas.  And then there is the whole issue of the motivation, purpose and rational behind what we are attempting to accomplish that comprise a different type of agenda altogether.  These elements come together to comprise what is often known as our emotional agenda.  And we could probably find a few more types of agenda to describe, if we really wanted too, but the agenda I want us to look at is our spiritual agenda.

Sadly, often our spiritual agendas are predicated by our social and emotional agendas and frequently it can become somewhat difficult to see where our worldly agendas stop and our spiritual agendas begin.
Often God is allocated a very miniscule portion of our social agenda and we seem to think allowing an hour on three Sunday mornings a month are adequate  and often we deem them a strain on the fiber of our very being, especially if the service last one second beyond the sixty-minute mark.  And even more sadly, we tend to view our spiritual relationships with fellow-believers and often even with God, as if they are for our own benefit, and are there to be manipulated and controlled by us to achieve a means to an end of some particular goal we are determined to obtain or reach.

The polarity of agendas in so many churches today, in the name of spiritual living, I think, often irk God and cause Him to be ashamed of His own children.
Jesus had the right idea about spiritual agenda’s.  His philosophy was simply this enable people to see the Father and accomplish the Father’s will.  Nothing else mattered.
That is how it should be for us today.  Our purpose should not be to placate the masses, to pander to the special interests or to leave the body feeling pampered and proud, but we need to be bold, courageous and willing to stand up, stir up and shake up those around us, just like Jesus did, so that when the dust settles and all is said and done the only purpose being served and the only agenda being followed is God’s.
Anything less is shallow, empty and a waste of God’s time.  After all shouldn’t and isn’t it suppose to be all about Him?
Today’s Prayer
Father, you are the truth the light and way and the creator of all this is, was or ever will be, so forgive me if ever I make my life about anything less than you and help me to set my agenda to be yours in all things social, physical, emotional and spiritual.

“You can make long range plans like you are going to live forever – but you need to live today as if it were your last.”

This is my cry: This is my song,
You are my guiding light, when the way is unknown;
And when the sunny skies, turn shades of gray,
I’ll stay close by your side: As you lead the way.
Jesus lead on I will follow:
Jesus lead on, let your love light the way…
-  Lyrics from ‘Jesus Lead On’ by Brent Helming
