The Realization of Who I Am

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.  For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
I Corinthians 13:11-12

Quote of the Day

“I am not what I ought to be.
I am not what I want to be.
I am not what I hope to be.
But still, I am not what I sue to be.
And by the grace of God,
I am what I am.” – John Newton

Today’s Thoughts and Insights:

Often it has been said, ‘Nobody knows me better than I know myself.’

And I suppose to some extent and on some level there may be a grain of truth within that proclamation.  Yet for some there is a seemingly perpetuated quest on which they go to find themselves and to become fully aware of who or what they are or are meant to be.

Regardless of or bent or predisposition of knowing or searching to know: there seems to be a predominate fixation with self awareness among human beings.

Andre Gide said of the notion of knowing oneself:  “’Know thyself’ – a maxim as pernicious as it is odious.  A perons who observes himself arrests his own development.”

Maybe our ambition should not be to know ourselves as we perceive or believe our selves to be; but yet rather we should seek to see ourselves and know who we really are from God’s perspective.  If we could see our self from His point of view, I imagine we might be a bit shocked to see the reality of what would be revealed in us and of us.

Yet we need to realize God sees potential that is often so hidden that we with the limitations of our humanity can not see.

If we could but see what God sees in us we might be both shocked, possible embarrassed on some level, but at the same time in awe at the amazing potential that we have because of God living in us, in the presence and person of the Holy Spirit.

There is an old Christmas song that poses the question, “Do you see what I see?”

As Christians we should always desire to see what God sees in us both good and bad.  The bad so it can be made better and the good so that it can be fully realized.

Today’s Prayer

Father, you are so insightful, all knowing and all seeing: amazing wonderful and glorious.  I know I am often visually challenged, as it were, in my ability to see myself clearly for who I really am and often for what I have the potential of becoming: so help me to see what you see and allow you to do whatever needs to be doen so that I can become all that you envision me to be.

“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about being created [by God] to be all that you can be.”
– George Bernard Shaw

This is my cry: This is my song,
You are my guiding light, when the way is unknown;
And when the sunny skies, turn shades of gray,
I’ll stay close by your side: As you lead the way.
Jesus lead on I will follow:
Jesus lead on, let your love light the way…
-  Lyrics from ‘Jesus Lead On’ by Brent Helming
